Name: Fabio da Cruz Maciel

Role: Solutions Architect

Tell us a little about yourself and your professional background.

With a career that began in sales, my goal has always been to master the technical aspects of the products I represent. When I moved to Colombia, I transitioned into the cybersecurity industry as a Technical Support Engineer, assisting LATAM customers and gaining invaluable insights into the field. This experience ignited my passion for cybersecurity and its solutions. Almost two years ago, I joined SecurityScorecard as a Solutions Architect, where I bridge the gap between technical expertise and sales, helping clients understand and maximize the value of our solutions. It’s a role that perfectly aligns with my professional aspirations and personal interests in technology and problem-solving.

What made you select the Ethical Hacking course as part of your professional development?

As someone passionate about deeply understanding the technologies I work with, I’ve always sought to strengthen my technical expertise. During my time supporting customers in the cybersecurity industry, I realized that staying ahead of emerging threats and understanding the mindset of potential attackers is crucial. This curiosity, coupled with my drive to help customers address their cybersecurity challenges more effectively, inspired me to take the Ethical Hacking course.

It wasn’t just about learning how to identify vulnerabilities—it was about immersing myself in the techniques and strategies that adversaries use, so I could better guide others in preventing them. This knowledge empowers me to provide more insightful advice, tailor solutions to real-world challenges, and add value to every interaction I have with customers.

What key takeaways and learnings have you acquired through this course?

The journey so far has been incredibly insightful. One key takeaway has been gaining a deeper understanding of how attackers think and operate, which is invaluable in identifying and addressing potential vulnerabilities. It’s been fascinating to learn how seemingly small misconfigurations or overlooked gaps can become entry points for threats, emphasizing the importance of proactive defense strategies.

Another significant learning has been the importance of ethical responsibility. This course reinforces that cybersecurity is not just about technical skills but also about using those skills to protect and empower organizations. Each module adds to my ability to better support customers with practical, real-world advice, ensuring that our solutions align with their security goals.

This hands-on learning experience continues to enhance my technical foundation, which directly complements my role as a Solutions Architect. It’s exciting to see how this knowledge will allow me to bridge the gap between customer needs and effective cybersecurity strategies even more effectively.

How will you apply this information to your role/to SSC?

Through this Ethical Hacking course, I’m already finding ways to apply my learnings to my role at SecurityScorecard. Understanding the techniques and methodologies used by attackers enhances my ability to explain the importance of security ratings and how they align with real-world threats. It allows me to provide more detailed and context-rich answers to customer questions, helping them see how our solutions can proactively address vulnerabilities.

Additionally, the course is improving my ability to identify practical use cases for our platform based on real-world scenarios. For instance, I can better explain how customers can prioritize remediations by understanding the risks from an attacker’s perspective. This perspective not only deepens my credibility with customers but also ensures I can tailor technical demonstrations and solutions to their specific security challenges.

In our team, I’m able to contribute more effectively by sharing insights and strategies learned from the course, which reinforces our collective ability to support our customers.
