Name: Chandra Sekhar Betha

Role: Senior InfoSec Analyst, Professional Services

Please share a little about your personal interests and professional background.

I started my career at Deloitte as a Cybersecurity Analyst and now hold 4 years of experience in Cybersecurity. My expertise lies in Security Operations, Threat Hunting, Incident Response, and Digital Forensics.

But let me tell you how it all began…

I’ve always been a movie buff, and few films changed everything for me. Watching hackers break into CCTV cameras, social media accounts, and even some critical servers on screen gave me a crazy adrenaline rush. It was like watching digital magic unfold. I was hooked. That curiosity turned into an obsession.

I visited Google, started learning whatever I could, and quickly became what the world calls a “script kiddie” – someone who uses tools without fully understanding the code behind them. But in my head, I was a white-hat superhero in the making. I picked up some cool tricks, showed them off at college tech fests, and to my surprise, I actually won a few!

Then came the big break – joining Deloitte. I didn’t land in the Red Team (the hacker squad I had dreamt of), but instead found myself in the Cyber Defense Team. And honestly? It was the best thing that ever happened. I got to work on real incidents, chase down real threats, and see firsthand how cybersecurity works at the deepest level. That’s where my passion truly came alive.

Outside of work, there’s a whole different side to me. I’m a professional Taekwondo athlete and have represented India at multiple international championships. I also love hitting the gym and going for runs.

So from movie-inspired “script kiddie” to Cyber Defender, it’s been a wild and exciting journey so far!

What made you select this GIAC Certified Incident Handler certification?

From my experience, I’ve realized that certifications are one of the easiest and most effective ways to learn something in a structured and focused way, especially in the ever-evolving field of cybersecurity.

Among all the options out there, SANS/GIAC certifications have always stood out to me. They’re known globally for their high-quality, advanced cybersecurity training. As someone deeply passionate about Incident Response, pursuing GCIH cert felt like the perfect fit.

The real reason I chose this certification was to strengthen my understanding of incident handling, not just theoretically, but with hands-on, real-world practices. I didn’t want to just “know” the concepts; I wanted to live them, apply them, and sharpen my skills to deal with real threats.

What key takeaways and learnings did you get from this experience?

One key lesson I’ve learned in this certification journey is if you want to defend against hackers, you need to think like one.  Just like you have to think like a thief to catch a thief, understanding the attacker’s mindset is crucial. That’s exactly what this certification helped me do. It gave me deep insight into how attackers operate, their tactics, techniques, and thought processes. More importantly, it wasn’t just theory.

The course was packed with hands-on labs that took my technical skills to the next level.Going through it didn’t just improve my knowledge,  it changed the way I approach incidents. I became more analytical, and more effective in responding to threats. I now see incidents not just as problems to solve, but as puzzles to understand from both sides of defender and attacker.

How will you apply this information to your role/to SSC?

The learnings I gained from this certification has changed the way I look at cybersecurity. In my role, I’ll use these skills to improve our organization’s and clients’ security operations, incident response, and threat hunting efforts. My goal is not just to react to attacks, but to stay one step ahead of them.

I’ll also apply this learning to assess third-party security more effectively – checking vendor risks, improving how we handle incidents involving partners, and helping reduce risks from external sources.

At the end of the day, cybersecurity is a team sport, and I’m excited to be part of a company where I can both grow and give back.
